In a social media spectacle that got fans talking, Doja Cat was in a heated exchange with her loyal followers, affectionately known as “Kittenz.” The 27-year-old singer did not hesitate to lash out at her fans, which left many scratching their heads and prompted her to quit Twitter.

It all started with a series of fiery tweets from the now-defunct Doja Cat Twitter account, in which she lashed out at fans who proudly called themselves “Kittenz.”

She rejected the nickname, declaring, “My fans don’t get to name themselves s***.”

But, she did not stop there. When a fan used her full name in their screen name, she stated it was “creepy as f***.”

Then when asked about the fanbase name, “Kittenz,” she advised the fan to “just delete the account and rethink everything. It’s never too late.”

Doja Cat’s top fan pages have deactivated their accounts for calling themselves “Kittenz.”

Naturally, chaos ensued among the singer’s fans. Loyal fans felt hurt and bewildered by their idol’s unexpected reaction. They recalled when Doja Cat had adopted the feline persona, even dressing as a cat at the prestigious Met Gala. Wasn’t she, not so long ago, all about the Kittenz?

The artist explained her disdain for the fan-given nickname, claiming that it dated back to her “alcoholic teen” days that she wanted to leave behind. Fans, though, could not shake the feeling that she was not appreciative, especially when she refused to tell them a simple “I love you too.”

While emotions ran high, some fans defended the singer, arguing that celebrities did not owe their fans a deep bond. They argued that fanaticism should not lead to a delusional claim on artists’ lives. Some even praised Doja Cat for staying true to herself and not letting fame change her.

However, a prevailing sentiment among disappointed fans was the idea that appreciation should go both ways. They stressed the importance of artists recognizing the role played by their fans in their success. After all, without a devoted fanbase, would they be where they are today?

Since the controversy with Doja Cat ensued, she has lost over 600K followers on Instagram.

This Twitter drama reminds us that the world of celebrity culture can be complex. Fans connect with artists they have never met, and artists must remember the roots of their success.

As the drama subsides and the “Kittenz” accounts remain deactivated, it is clear that there has a lesson here for artists and fans alike. We should all appreciate the music and art they create, but not forget that they are human beings as well.

As for Doja Cat, we hope she takes the time to reflect on her lyrics and their impact on those who admire her.
