Jimmy Buffett Sets New Record: First Top 10 Billboard 200
Just a couple weeks after the 1970’s hit singer Jimmy Buffett passed away, he returned to the Billboard 200 albums chart in the top five. His Songs You Known By Heart: Jimmy Buffett’s Greatest Hits, released in 1985, is listed as number four. This is the first time the album has hit the top ten.
Prior, Buffet’s only Billboard Hot 100 top ten charting song, “Margaritaville,” reached No. 8 in 1977. His other songs include “Come Monday” and “Fins” from the album Songs You Know By Heart only reached the top 40 during its release time in 1977.

Songs You Know By Heart, released in 1985, peaked at No. 100 on the Billboard 200 for 35 weeks. The album was announced as Platinum in 1989 by having 1 million units sold to retailers across the United States. Furthermore, the increase in sales increased when electronically tracking music sales became big in 1991. The album received 7.14 million traditional album sales, with 8.26 million album units.

Due to be released on November 3, Buffet’s final studio album, Equal Strain on All Parts, was announced shortly after his passing. Collaborating on the album will include Emmylou Harris, Lennie Gallant, Angelique Kidjo, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and Paul McCartney.
