Travis Scott faced questions for several hours in a civil deposition tied to lawsuits filed over the deadly 2021 Astroworld Festival crowd crush.

The American rapper, singer, and record producer Travis Scott appeared in Houston, TX court on Monday, September 18, nearly two years after the Astroworld Festival tragedy in Houston, where he answered questions in response to the hundreds of civil lawsuits.

According to the Associated Press, this was the first time the Houston native was questioned by attorneys for the individuals who filed lawsuits since the tragedy on November 5, 2021, that resulted in 10 deaths and thousands injured.

Approximately 50,000 people were in attendance at the Astroworld festival. Among those individuals were ten victims, as young as nine years old, all passed from compression asphyxia due to the massive crowd surge.

“Documents filed in court in April listed more than 1,500 active cases, many of which were filed against Scott and Live Nation, the concert promoter,” stated Independent.

The rapper’s deposition occurred after a judge ruled earlier this year that the first trial would begin on May 6, 2024.

However, it was announced in June that a Harris County Grand Jury declined to bring charges against Travis Scott and other Astroworld Festival organizers and workers.

According to ET Online, Scott’s representative, Ted Anastasiou, released a statement about the deposition, acknowledging the rapper’s cooperation during Monday’s court hearing. “Travis Scott’s deposition is typical legal procedure,” he stated. “What is not typical is how the media continues to focus on him despite being cleared of any wrongdoing by extensive government investigations, including the Houston Police Department.”

Despite the hearings, the Houston rapper is expected to hit the road this year for his first official Uptopia Cirus Maximus tour since the tragedy. Scott’s fourth studio album, “Utopia,” dropped on Friday, July 28, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
