Tim Burton confirmed that Beetlejuice 2, the sequel to the classic 1988 film, has finished filming after halting production due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Tim Burton has just announced via Instagram that Beetlejuice 2 has finished filming. The sequel was only two days short of finishing filming when it was shut down due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Filming originally started back in May during the WGA strike as the screenplay from Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar were already locked in. The filming wasn’t paused until this summer when the actors joined the strike. Despite the setback, the filming nonetheless is complete.

Beetlejuice 2 comes as a sequel to Burton’s beloved 1998 classic. Actor Micheal Keaton returns to his title role alongside Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara.

Moreover, several new faces have joined the sequel, including, Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux.

In interviews from the start of the strike, Burton shared just how close they had been to wrapping up filming. “I feel grateful we got what we got,” he stated. “Literally it was a day and a half. We know what we have to do. It is 99 percent done.”

“On this last one, ‘Beetlejuice 2,’ I really enjoyed it,” shared Burton while touching on how rare it was to work on such a large production and enjoy it. “I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies.”

Moreover, on the set of Beetlejuice 2, Burton was prioritizing practical effects, as reported by Variety. Keaton also shared his excitement of getting to work on the upcoming film.

“It’s so fun, It’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie,” Keaton stated. “There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line, I want people to know this because I love it, tugging on the tail of the cat to make it move.”

Beetlejuice 2 is set to release in theaters on September 6, 2024. With the long wait and excitement from the cast, fans are thrilled to get a first look at the sequel.
