A Rom-Com Nightmare: Sydney Sweeney Bitten by Spider on Set

While filming Anyone But You, Sydney Sweeney revealed her not-so-glamorous close encounter with a “trained” spider.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress shared the incident where she was bitten by a spider on the set of Anyone But You. The event happened while filming a scene where her character discovers a giant huntsman spider chilling in Glen Powell’s underwear. However, things got a little too real.

“They told me it was trained,” Sweeney explained. “I don’t know how you train a freaking spider. There’s no way.”

“So, we’re filming, and then the thing just starts biting me,” Sweeny commented. “But we’re in the middle of the scene, and I’m supposed to be screaming, but then my screaming got a little serious. They thought I was making really serious dramatic choices in a rom-com. This is a disaster for any actor out there. It was terrible. So no one cut. So I’m just standing there with this spider on my arm, biting me, and I’m screaming, and just everyone’s watching.”

Turns out, Glen Powell came to the rescue.

“Glen was the only one who was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa. I think this is a little real’ and we had to cut,” Sweeney added.

Fallon then whipped out a report from the movie’s on-set medic, who added some humor to the paperwork, “First aid – Sydney Sweeney (Cast Department) bitten by spider, now Spiderwoman.”

Ironically, the Euphoria star hadn’t revealed her next project to the crew, where she will play Julia Carpenter, aka Spider-Woman, in Sony’s upcoming Madame Web film.

After showing the humorous clip, Sweeney added, “That was, like, a soul scream. I thought I was gonna die. Well, I was like, ‘It’s poisonous. I’m gonna die.”

Aside from that small mishap, audiences should be excited about the upcoming film. Anyone But You hits theaters on December 22, and Madame Web hits the big screen on February 14.
