Boygenius won the prestigious Best Alternative Music Album award at the 2024 Grammys for their outstanding album, The Record.

The supergroup, consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus, emerged victorious over strong contenders like Arctic Monkeys with The Car, Gorillaz with Cracker Island, Lana Del Rey with Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, and PJ Harvey with I Inside the Old Year Dying.

Boasting a total of seven Grammy nominations this year, Boygenius achieved a significant milestone. Their album The Record was also nominated in the Album of the Year and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical categories.

The band’s single, “Cool About It,” secured a nomination for Best Alternative Music Performance. Additionally, their track “Not Strong Enough” earned three more nominations, including Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song, clinching victories in the latter two categories.

This marks Boygenius’ inaugural Grammy nominations, and the band received the exciting news collectively during rehearsals for their debut performance on Saturday Night Live.

In addition to their collective success, Phoebe Bridgers garnered another accolade this year. She won the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award for her contribution as the featured artist on SZA’s track “Ghost in the Machine.”

Maintaining their tradition of sartorial coordination, Bridgers, Dacus, and Baker donned matching off-white Thom Browne suits. Each member adorned their lapels with a pink carnation, serving as a poignant homage to the lyrics of their song “We’re In Love”: “I’ll be the boy with the pink carnation / Pinned to my lapel, who looks like h*ll and asks for help.”

Symbolizing gratitude, the pink carnations hold added significance as Boygenius embarks on a hiatus after their recent performance.

On February 1, Boygenius presented two acoustic sets at the Smell in downtown Los Angeles, announcing during the shows, “We’re going away for the foreseeable future.”

Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus united to form Boygenius in 2018, unveiling their self-titled debut EP in the same year. Following this collaboration, the trio took a hiatus, allowing each member to pursue individual projects.

In 2020, Bridgers released her solo album, Punisher. Baker followed suit with Little Oblivions in February 2021, while Dacus presented her solo album, Home Video, in June 2021.

Boygenius made a resounding comeback last year with their album The Record, accompanied by a companion EP titled The Rest.

Amid their well-deserved hiatus, we are left with gratitude for the artistry, camaraderie, and profound lyrics that have enriched our musical landscape.
