Last night, at the Grammy Awards, Miley Cyrus gave an outstanding performance of her hit single “Flowers” fresh off her first-ever Grammy win.

Cyrus’s performance of “Flowers” last night was iconic for so many reasons. First of all, she had just gotten off the stage to accept her first-ever Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance–given to her by the one and only Mariah Carey.

“…this is just too iconic” Cyrus gushed, pulling Carey in for a hug. Shortly afterward, she was back onstage, this time donning a dress dripping with diamonds. As the lights rose on the singer, she began the song with bang; her stage presence and priceless expressions reminded us that yes, she did have her own TV series on Disney Channel.

As she reached the first chorus, Cyrus looked around in disbelief: the audience was not matching her energy. “Why are you acting like you don’t know this song?” she remarked. Immediately the room full of stars began to sing and dance along with her, laughing at her honesty.

The hit single is rumoured to be about Cyrus’s former husband, Liam Hemsworth, and the ad-libs during the rest of her performance prove that she’s clearly feeling that post-breakup glow. Among the list were “I forgive every word you said–but don’t forget it,” “I didn’t want to leave you–but had to,” and “I didn’t want to fight–but we did.”

Regardless of whomever these ad-libs are about, the real focus here for Cyrus was her recent success with her first-ever Grammy Award. As she launched into the second chorus, she sang “Started to cry, but then remembered–I just won my first Grammy!” and twirled around the stage. Moreover, her enthusiasm and self-confidence was contagious, radiating among the crowd and through thousands of television screens.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer finished her performance in the best possible way — with a tribute to icon Tina Turner, who passed away this past year. She launched into an extended version of “Flowers,” sampling the famous chords from Turner’s “Proud Mary” in the background.

After dancing and flipping her hair, Cyrus dropped the mic and sashayed offstage proving that, once again, she was born for the limelight. You can watch the performance below.
