On January 12, Grande released “yes, and?” through Republic Records. It’s the leading single off of her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, set to be released March 8. Produced by Grande, Max Martin, and Ilya Salmanzadeh, the track includes elements of house, pop, and ballroom.

Lyrically, “yes, and?” addresses some negative press the artist has received over the past three years, while also focusing on self confidence and it. “My tongue is sacred, I speak upon what I like. Protected, sexy, discerning with my time (My time). Your energy is yours, and mine is mine (It’s mine it’s mine). What’s mine is mine,” the lyrics state.

The single debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This brings Grande up to six No. 1 debuts, tying her with Taylor Swift for the most among women. In its first week, “yes, and?” accumulated 27.2 million streams and 24.8 million radio airplay audience impressions. Clearly, the track has had great success both on the charts and among fans so far.

On February 14, Grande announced that pop legend legend Mariah Carey would be joining her on a remix of “yes, and?” via Instagram. “This is so iconic! Two of my favorites together,” one fan commented. The remix was released the following Friday to similiar reception of the original. Their voices blend together beautifully, and of course, Carey’s signature whistle note makes an appearance in the song.
