The trailer shows the character Amerie Wadia (Ayesha Madon) back at Hartley High; however, she is at the center of online bullying. Her friends, Quinni Gallagher-Jones (Chole Hayden) and Darren Rivers (James Majoos), are trying to help her find the cyberbully. The viewer can also expect to see the other characters trying to navigate their own lives and personal conflicts.

Heartbreak High takes place in Australia as the teens learn to navigate sexuality, romance, friendships, and identity. Season one happens at Hartley High when an explicit map is discovered on the school’s wall.

The characters, Amerie, and her ex-best friend, Harper McLean (Asher Yasbincek), are believed to have made the map together. As a result, every student whose name appears on the map has to take a sexual education course. This course is referred to as the “Sexual Literacy Tutorial.”

The series receives praise from audiences for its representation. Many people are even drawing comparisons between Heart Break High and another Netflix original series, Sex Education. This series aired for four seasons before ending in 2023. Both dramas show their characters navigating through the challenges of growing up and finding one’s identity.

The series originally aired in September 2022. Hannah Carroll created it specifically for Netflix. The series proved to be a major success for the streaming platform. It even went on to win the 2023 International Emmy Award for Best Kids: Live-Action. It also has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Heartbreak High (2022) is an adaptation of the 1994 Australian series of the same name. The original series aired for seven seasons. This series is also an adaptation of the 1987 stage play, The Heartbreak Kid. Each version of the story focuses on navigating life, high school, and personal identities.
