The fifth and final season of Netflix’s You has officially begun production, giving us a first look at Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg and new cast members.

Hello, you.

Netflix has just announced the news of the final season of You beginning production. We have been given a first look at the character of Joe Goldberg in the hit thriller as he begins filming for the last time in New York City. The actor is seen walking down the city street in a black peacoat, hands in the pockets of his navy blue slacks, a maroon shirt, and that familiar smirk.

The announcement for season 5 was made last March, exactly a year ago. So, while it has been a year of waiting, we are finally given a glimpse of what Goldberg will be up to this time around.

Penn Badgley will continue his lead role with an entirely new cast of characters. This is nothing new, as we see in every season, Joe continuously moves around the world to start a new life and get away from his old one. Netflix has confirmed that the series is not over yet. This season is also expected to have a lot more thrilling twists and turns as he returns home to New York City.

Moreover, this month, a new set of actors has been revealed to join the story. Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect) and Griffin Matthews (Your Place or Mine) are the latest to have joined the season as series regulars last week. They will join previously announced Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale) on screen.

Camp will double up on roles, portraying Goldberg’s two twin sisters-in-law, Raegan and Maddie Lockwood. Raegan’s character is described as cunning and cutthroat with her eyes on the throne, while Maddie is a master manipulator under a more relaxed facade, divorced three times, and works in PR. Matthews will portray Goldberg’s brother-in-law. He is described as snarky but authentic and loyal, a member of the Lockwood family who has never truly been accepted by them. Brewer is cast as Bronte, a free-spirited playwright who begins working at Goldberg’s new bookstore.

The storyline throughout the series follows a charming and obsessive serial killer, Joe as he falls in love with different women each season, tries to do the right thing, and then does the worst thing, causing chaos and death around him wherever he goes. He has left London, the setting of season 4, where he is surrounded by rich London elites whom he befriended, even though he did not fit in.

The ending of season 4 was shocking and well-orchestrated, so it should be exciting to see what season five holds with what will most definitely be both a shocking premiere and a grand finale.

Fans are very excited to see what’s in store for Goldberg and the new characters, and many hope that he gets the ending he deserves for all of the pain he’s caused. Badgley revealed in an interview with GQ that he does not like Goldberg and does not want him to end as a hero, hoping he gets what’s coming to him. A release date for the season has yet to be announced.

While you wait, you can head to Netflix and rewatch the current four seasons of You.
