Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield will star alongside each other in John Crowley’s film We Live in Time, an upcoming love story releasing this fall.

We Live in Time will be a romance film centered around two characters portrayed by Garfield and Pugh. The story will follow a recent divorcee, Tobias (Garfield), trying to figure out his life, and a witty chef, Almut (Pugh), who unexpectedly meet and have the trajectory of their lives changed. It will follow the characters as they fall in love and start a family.

Deadline describes it as a funny, deeply moving, and immersive love story. It looks like it will be a romance film with hints of comedy and drama.

Back in March 2023, Garfield and Florence were in talks to star in the film, but nothing was confirmed. Shortly after the two presented an award together on stage at the 95 Academy Awards, the casting announcement was made.

BAFTA-winning director John Crowley, the director of We Live in Time, appeared on UCC’s Talking Pictures podcast last week, where he revealed new information on his upcoming film. “With thrilling performances from both of them, it’s the portrait of a marriage and what it means to create a family,” he shared.

Both actors have impressive acting résumés, starring in some of the best films of this generation. The English actress has been seen in Little Women, Don’t Worry Darling, Oppenheimer, Black Widow, Midsommar, and her newest film, Dune: Part Two. In 2020, Pugh received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Little Women. She also shares a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture for Oppenheimer, which she shares with her castmates.

Garfield has starred in many popular films like The Amazing Spider-Man films, Tick Tick Boom, Hacksaw Ridge, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and The Social Network. Garfield has also been recognized for his acting skills and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for Tick Tick Boom.

The screenplay was written by award-winning screenwriter Nick Payne, best known for creating the drama series Wanderlust. Producers include Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland, and Guy Heeley. The production companies involved are Film4 and SunnyMarch, with StudioCanal set to distribute it. In addition, Benedict Cumberbatch was announced to be an executive producer under his SunnyMarch banner.

Fans are already sharing their excitement for the release date announcement on social media, as they didn’t expect it to be out so soon.

Production began in London last year, and the film is set to be released this Fall. You can watch Crowley’s latest directing work in Brooklyn, available to stream on Max.
