Chance the Rapper and his wife Kristen Corley recently announced their divorce to fans on Instagram after 5 years of marriage.

“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” the two shared on their Instagram stories. “We came to this decision amicable and with gratitude for the time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together,” the post stated.

The posts also included a request for privacy and respect as they both navigate their divorce. Chance the Rapper married his now estranged wife in March 2019 after being in a relationship on and off since 2013. The couple also shares their children, Kensli who is 7, and Marli who is 4.

They had known each other since childhood and met when the musician was 9 years old. Furthermore, Chance the Rapper, whose real name is Chancelor Bennett, revealed how they first met in a series of tweets in March 2019. He recalled first seeing her lip-syncing to Destiny’s Child at one of his mom’s work parties stating, “I knew I was gonna marry that girl…[and] 16 years later it’s happening. This [weekend] is the time, and the place is my wedding. I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.”

Years later they welcomed their first child, split in 2016 then reconnected, and were engaged in July 2018. The “Chain Smoker” rapper also dedicated his debut album The Big Day to his wedding and his wife. The album was released in July 2019 and featured artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj, and Shawn Mendes. The Big Day had 22 tracks including “All Day Long,” “Sun Come Down,” “Do You Remember,” and “Handsome.”

Fans of the couple had various reactions to the news of their divorce. Moreover, some even went as far as speculating that the reason for their divorce was related to the incident at a carnival in Jamaica. In 2023, the rapper was spotted dancing with women during a carnival which created public discourse about whether his behavior was inappropriate.
