Harry Styles ‘Sign of the Times’ Achieves New Milestone
“Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles has officially achieved 1.5 billion streams on Spotify. Styles has three other songs that have achieved this milestone.
The single was released in 2017 by Columbia Records from the singer’s debut studio album, Harry Styles. It was written by Jeff Bhasker, Mitch Rowland, Ryan Nasci, Alex Salibian, and Styles.
In addition to “Sign of the Times,” the songs, “Watermelon Sugar,” “Adore You,” and “As It Was” have also surpassed 1 billion streams. The “Falling” singer has released three studio albums since he departed from the group, One Direction in 2016, Harry Styles (2017), Fine Line (2019), and Harry’s House (2022).
When asked about the meaning behind “Sign of the Times,” the singer told Rolling Stone the significance. He stated, “Most of the stuff that hurts me about what’s going on at the moment is not politics, it’s fundamentals… Equal rights. For everyone, all races, sexes, everything… ‘Sign of the Times’ came from ‘This isn’t the first time we’ve been in a hard time, and it’s not going to be the last time.’”
The song debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, it garnered 16.5 million streams and sold 142,000 copies upon its release. As a result of the song’s success, the anticipation for the “Carolina” singer’s debut album grew. When the album, Harry Styles was released in May 2017, it debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. This was a massive success for Styles and the start of his solo career.

In addition to the announcement of “Sign of the Times,” Styles released a music video to accompany the single. In 2022, the video officially reached one billion views on YouTube. This achievement came nearly five years after its initial debut.
