Celine Dion Discusses Her Surprise Grammys Appearance in New Interview
Celine Dion recently discussed her surprise Grammys appearance during an interview with Vogue for their “Life in Looks” series.
“It was a very nerve-wracking and at the same time a big honor,” the songstress stated. “That magic, that excitement, to see the fans, to see the crowd, to see the show business again – it took a lot, a lot out of me but my son, Rene-Charles, RC, came and gave me his support.”
The 56-year-old was diagnosed in 2022 with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder that causes muscle spasms, and stiffness, and can potentially result in a loss of mobility. Since being diagnosed, the “I’m Alive” singer stepped back from the spotlight as she focused on her health.
Her appearance at the 2024 Grammys was a rare occasion that fans worldwide appreciated. She was met with a standing ovation and praise from the audience. Dion presented the Album of the Year award to Taylor Swift for her album, Midnights. “It’s an honor because she’s having the time of her life and I’m the one who’s presenting it to her. But it’s always very, very touching when you have a standing ovation,” the singer stated about her experience.
Dion stunned in a mustard Valentino Haute Couture coat that she wore over a blush pink gown. Her look, styled by retired celebrity stylist, Law Roach, was completed with a silver statement necklace and diamond studs. The music icon expressed that her coat made her feel safe stating, “I was like, I can walk on stage with a coat? Oh yeah, you can do whatever you want in fashion, let’s have a good time. Wear that coat. Own that coat. Go for it. And it made me feel better for a moment to hold on to this coat, to hide myself a little bit from all these little things.”
She summarized the moment with lyrics from her song, “Imperfections,” singing, “I got my own imperfections. I got my own. I got my own. Hold on.”
We wish the legend all the best with her health and look forward to seeing her in the spotlight again. Click here to watch more of her Vogue interview.
