Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie Is Headed to Theaters

Netflix

The beloved Netflix kids series Gabby’s Dollhouse is set to receive big-screen treatment with Laila Lockhart Kraner reprising her role as Gabby.

A special announcement was made for young fans of Gabby’s Dollhouse, as it was just confirmed that DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures are making a feature film of the hit television series. The film will be released in theaters in 2025.

First, here’s some background on the series being brought to the big screen. It was created by Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey, whose names may initially sound unfamiliar, but they are behind some of your favorite animated childhood shows. Johnson is the original voice for Blue’s Clues, while Twomey served as an executive producer.

Teaming up for Gabby’s Dollhouse, both creators pulled inspiration from Blue’s Clues. The series is a combination of both live-action and CGI scenes. It centers around 12-year-old Gabby who unboxes an item that leads to magical powers.

Moreover, Gabby uses the magical power within her cat ears to not only shrink down to dollhouse size but go on exciting adventures with her animated cat friends. The series also focuses on teaching life lessons to young children. These lessons include free thinking and being flexible despite being in difficult situations. There is a mixture of music, dancing, cooking, and crafting to inspire creativity in young minds.

Additionally, featured on the show’s Instagram page are fun and playful memes centering around pop culture topics. It also includes advice with colorful visually appealing photos and videos.

Now, Laila Lockhart Krane will be reprising her role as the title character Gabby from the 2021 series. In the film, Gabby will be going on a road trip with her Grandma Gigi to “Cat Francisco.” Tables turn as Gabby’s dollhouse ends up in the hands of an evil cat lady named Vera. Gabby must go on a solo adventure to get the Gabby Cats back together and her dollhouse before time runs out.

Emmy-award nominee, Ryan Crego is set to direct. Steven Schweickart is also set to produce. Moreover, Schweickart already worked on one of the most successful films of the year so far: Kung Fu Panda 4.

The hit Netflix series is also having an impressive run before its 2025 movie release. It is the sixth-most-viewed streaming original series in 2023. Netflix recently ordered the series to have 100 total episodes, with the newest season making its premiere on the platform sometime later this year. The series has also been making its presence across Universal’s theme parks and toy stores such as Target with exclusive merch and toys for children.
