After almost two decades in development from numerous studios, Amazon finally cast an actor to portray He-Man in its upcoming Masters of the Universe live-action film.

This week, Variety reports that actor Nicholas Galitzine is cast as Prince Adam, also known as He-Man. According to a previously released plot synopsis, the film centers on Adam returning to his home planet to free it from evil. It is based on Mattel’s Masters of the Universe franchise. Coming off the incredible success of last year’s Barbie, it is no surprise to see Mattel bringing more of its toys to life.

A live-action film based on Masters of the Universe has been in the works for almost 20 years. First conceived in 2007, Warner Brothers, Sony, and Netflix developed this project at various times. The previous incarnation of the film at Netflix had West Side Story star Kyle Allen attached to portray He-Man. Netflix was also coming off the success of its He-Man spinoff series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

However, last July, Variety reported that Netflix scrapped the project due to increasing development costs. Amazon plans to release its adaptation in 2026. In addition, Bumblebee‘s Travis Knight is the director of the film.

Galitzine continues his working relationship with Amazon following his romantic comedy, The Idea of You. He also starred in Red, White, and Royal Blue and is set to return for the sequel. Other names attached to the film include writer Chris Butler, who worked with Knight previously on Kubo and the Two Strings, and producer Robbie Brenner from Mattel. Masters of the Universe is currently one of 15 films Mattel has in development, which include film adaptations of Uno and Hot Wheels.

Until further news about this exciting project, you can watch Nicholas Galitizine star onscreen in his various roles on Amazon.
