PinkPantheress discussed her journey from TikTok to stardom with ABC News reporter Ashan Singh on ABC News’s latest music segment, Prime Playlist.

The popstar started on TikTok, using the platform to her advantage, she released her music within the 60 seconds the platform provided. In the segment, the British popstar sensation, PinkPanthress unveils her journey from being a TikTok musician to the star she is today.

Former University of Arts London attendee, PinkPantheress honed her filmmaking skills through her studies. Her talent is evident in music videos like “Nice to Meet You” and “Mosquito.” She showcases her producer talents using Garageband, creating music from her bedroom without a studio. Moreover, the artist was awarded Producer of the Year at this year’s Billboard Women in Music Awards. PinkPantheress embraces diverse sounds and believes songs don’t need to exceed two and a half minutes. “I was able to experiment and make sure songs were a result of me experimenting, and a song doesn’t need to be longer than two minutes and 30 seconds, in my opinion,” she shares during the Playlist Prime segment.

With her mixing of the UK, bedroom pop, and stunning Y2K influence, PinkPantheress continues to thrive in the music industry with her hit sensations such as “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” with the newcomer and hitmaker Ice Spice, “Just for me,” and “I Must Apologies” from her debut mixtape To Hell With It. In addition to her many hits, PinkPantheress reveals her expert producer skills are derived from her taste in music. The producer has a sole playlist of her favorite songs, from which she listens and pulls inspiration from her selection of music, curating a sampling of those songs.

Her newest single, “Turn It Up,” samples from Selena’s 1995 song “Dreaming of You.” In addition, her song “I Must Apologise,” was a sample from the 1991 hit “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)” by Crystal Waters. Record producing, singing, songwriting, and hosting her first tour for her first album, Heaven Knows, aren’t the only musical highlights for the artist.

The New Artist of the Year nominee was also the lead vocalist for a rock band. Her inspiration is Hayley Williams, the lead vocalist of the famous rock band Paramore. She set out to perform and produce her own music later. “I wanted people to, at that point, have a real strong desire and real taste to finding out about me,” she shares during the interview.

Though the artist sought to make her music and sound known, she opposes music being longer than necessary. “We don’t need to repeat a verse. We don’t need to have a bridge. We don’t need it,” she shares. However, her music follows her ideals. Her longest song, “Capable of Love,” from her debut album Heaven Knows, is nearly four minutes long, while most of her music ranges between two and three minutes.
