TikTok opened the door for many emerging artists to reach potential fans. For PinkPantheress, the algorithm took her from making music in her bedroom closet to worldwide stardom.

A new era of artists sprouted from our generation’s most mind-boggling phenomenon, TikTok. The artists emerging from this app unapologetically experiments with genres, music styles, and subgenres.

In a generation of oversaturation, it seems the fresh talent of tomorrow strives to make their own path in music. Also referred to by users as the “clock app,” TikTok continues its music-sharing platform with new artists. The quick but dopamine-endorsing short videos allow anyone to become an overnight sensation.

It did not take long for upcoming artists to use this algorithm to their advantage. Aspiring musicians no longer need to have industry connections to be successful. With a bit of drive and an ounce of talent, almost anyone could be the next big thing.

PinkPantheress’s TikTok page, which now has 1.7 million followers, makes TikTok seem like a foolproof way for hopeful artists to blow up. Videos from December 2020 show PinkPantheress posting snippets of music every day, hoping to be blessed by the TikTok algorithm gods.

Just a year later, her prayers were answered. She grew a large following who begged her to release music on streaming services and praised her talent. A month later, a Spotify account in her name arose, and her rise to stardom began. At first, she encountered her fame from an anonymous persona, hiding her identity and appearance. Eventually, she revealed her face but still keeps her personal life private.

PinkPantheress’s unique music style may be the cause for her virtually overnight fame. As a child of The Noughties, she embodies the vibe of one of the most beloved eras of the century. Her minute-long songs are filled with soft vocals and electronic beats that resemble ringtones from the 2000s.

The rise of TikTok led Gen Z to revive Y2K and ’90s style trends, and many romanticize the creativity these eras inspired. However, they put their own modern spin on their chosen era by integrating current styles. Even PinkPantheress states to British Vogue, “I think that the kids of today love alternative sh*t and being different, myself included. They don’t want to be the popular girl, and I think the 2000s was like, the coolest moment for that… Being the loser was kind of a cool thing. For Gen Z, I feel like the resurgence is just because we saw how cool of a time it was that we weren’t around to actually enjoy for ourselves.”

Since the release of her first hit “Pain,” she released her first album to hell with it, featured on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, and collaborated with stars like Kaytranda, Willow, beabadoobee, and many more. There’s no limit on how fast and far PinkPantheress’s music career will go. View one of her most recent tracks that already made waves on TikTok, Spotify, and Youtube down below.
