Chace Crawford took a turn in the hot seat on a new episode of Call Her Daddy. The actor sat down with host Alex Cooper to talk about all things early beginnings, Gossip Girl, his time in New York City, and the not-so-fabulous life of dating.

Before taking center stage on the Upper East Side, Crawford donned highlights and a puka shell necklace while clocking in for a shift at Abercrombie & Fitch – not as a surfing greeter but as a cashier. During his teen years, he mentions that while he didn’t know he wanted to be an actor, he always had an artistic, creative side to him. Growing up in a religious southern family made it difficult to hone in on this passion.

After spending a year at Pepperdine University, he left to pursue acting and auditioned for another iconic Y2K series, Friday Night Lights. Although rejected, he would earn his breakout role as Nate Archibald in the CW’s Gossip Girl one year later. Archibald started as Blair Waldorf’s boyfriend but would soon become the love interest of, well, everyone else. Throughout the series, his character would take on a laid-back, sometimes aloof role, which is why Gen Z has penned the trust fund baby as the “golden retriever” of the bunch.

He recalled meeting Leighton Meester (Waldorf) for the first time at one of their many rounds of auditions.

“I got this big conference room and there was just this one girl sitting with her back turned. I walked all around, and I was like, ‘Hi, nice to meet you.’ And it was like Leighton turned around. And before she even said hi, I’m like, ‘That’s, she’s like so perfect.’ She was like, ‘Hi, nice to meet you.’ I’m like, ‘That’s the girl,’” he discussed, to which Cooper (and honestly, everyone listening) agreed.

Off-screen, the actor threw some of the best NYC rooftop parties with roommate and fellow co-star Ed Westwick, very Nate and Chuck-like. He shared that one night he was instructed to come down to handle a commotion that was the appearance of Lindsay Lohan and then partner Sam Ronson. The two attended the party and Crawford remembered having a great time. “It’s very 2000,” he stated.

As for living with Westwick, Crawford poked fun at his friend, citing, “Ed’s room was like, you know, it was like a lunch pail with like overflowing cigarettes. And like, I mean, you thought like the Joker lived there. It was insane. I’m not even kidding. I shouldn’t be calling him out like this, but I love him to death.”

Overall, he looks fondly back on his time in New York City, wishing he had purchased real estate after wrapping GG. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, yes, he still keeps in touch with his cast members – despite every feud rumor known to man.

As for his dating life, though, he is nothing like Nate Archibald, who was linked to any woman who breathed his way, no matter their age. After many other attempts at a relationship, the 38-year-old recently logged onto Raya and although he isn’t over the moon, he does plan to dabble in it a bit more. By the way, if you pass by his profile, note that he’s looking for a chill book reader and isn’t a fan of neck tattoos.

The two wrapped up the conversation by discussing his current series, The Boys, and how much this project differs from his Gossip Girl days, including the lack of diversity in his character’s, The Deep’s, wardrobe. Not to mention the swift audition process and calendar incident that had Prime Video executives calling for crucial edits.

In the end, Crawford thanked Cooper for making this one of his favorite interviews, and with the fun stories and easygoing conversation, listeners agreed—this was one of their favorite guests on the podcast.
