Adventure Time is a cult-classic television series that premiered on Cartoon Network in 2010. It is an animated fantasy series following a 12-year-old boy named Finn and his mystical adventures with his best friend, a 28-year-old dog with magical powers named Jake, who tags along in case danger looms for the dynamic duo.

Although the series ended in 2018 after ten seasons, its popularity has reached new heights, with merchandise and video game releases. The animated series even received an average Tomatometer score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fast-forward six years, the show has retained its spark among fans. Several new projects, including a movie and several spinoff cartoons, have been greenlit for release. However, Adventure Time is one of many animated series being revived. Scooby-Doo and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends are also being reimagined.

The first project to be greenlit for Adventure Time is a movie currently in development. As for the series, Side Quests has recently been greenlit for production, with the second spinoff series, Heyo BMO, also in development. With only the titles being revealed, fans can expect Heyo BMO to primarily focus on BMO, Finn’s and Jake’s lovable robot companion.

Excitement has been brewing to revive these beloved childhood series’ since the announcement at the Annecy Animation Festival, a prestigious animal film festival in France held annually in mid-June.

With the reveal of three new properties being created under the Adventure Time name, the film is being made under the original showrunner, Adam Muto. Patrick McHale (co-creator of Over the Garden Wall) and Rebecca Sugar (creator of Steven Universe) will also be tagging along on the project.

The film will focus on Finn and Jake as they embark on an incredible journey. While not much has been revealed about the plot, we have some updates on the spinoff series.

The spinoff series Adventure Time: Side Quests will occur during Finn’s childhood as he envisions a future of adventures and mythical conquests. It is also rumored that early versions of fan-favorite characters, such as Finn’s frozen formidable foe, the Ice King, will also appear.

Heyo BMO will focus on the adventures of BMO and other friends and be tailored primarily to younger audiences. Other spinoffs, such as Fiona and Cake, the female versions of Finn and Jake, have had their series following the original. Still, the upcoming film marks Finn and Jake’s official and proper return to chronicling their journey as lifelong friends.

In addition, another fan-favorite series, Regular Show, will also be revived, with original showrunner J.G. Quintel working on the project. It is rumored that despite new faces being added to the series, some original characters may be featured. Could Muscle Man return after all these years to make even more iconic “Your Mom” jokes?

For now, while anxiously waiting for the release of each upcoming project, fans can stream every episode on Hulu or Max until Finn and Jake embark on their next epic adventure.
