Last Thursday, Max released the second official teaser for The Penguin, starring Oscar-nominee Colin Farrell. The series continues the ongoing story that began in Matt Reeve’s 2022 superhero film The Batman.

Farrell stars as Oswald Cobblepot, the infamous Gotham City mobster known as “The Penguin.” When we last saw him, he served as the right-hand to crime boss Carmine Falcone. With Falcone dead and Gotham underwater, Cobblepot will attempt to escape his former employer’s shadow.

In addition to Farrell (last seen in the Apple TV series Sugar), this series will also star Cristin Millioti (Palm Springs) and Rhenzy Feliz (Encanto). Other actors joining the series include Micheal Kelly (House of Cards), Clancy Brown (Thor: Ragnarok), and Micheal Zegen (The Marvelous Ms Maisel). Lauren LeFranc (Impulse) serves as showrunner and writer, with Reeves onboard as an executive producer.

The series consists of eight episodes, with Craig Zobel (Mare of Easttown) and Helen Shaver attached to direct episodes, and is set to premiere this September on Max.

The Penguin will be released under the “DC Elseworlds” banner, created by James Gunn to distinguish projects that are not connected to his rebooted DC Universe. It is the first project releasing under this banner, followed in October by Joker: Folie A Deux. Additionally, Reeves is developing an Arkham Asylum-based series for the DCU.
