The comical film premiered globally in over four thousand theaters this Fourth of July weekend. Breaking records in the opening three days, the box office for the animation surpassed $122 million.

The first Despicable Me, released in July 2010, reached $56 million domestically. Since then, each additional film and the Minions spinoff progressively increased in growth. The franchise surpassed $230 million, ranking as the top-grossing animation of all time.

The “world’s favorite supervillain turned Anti-Villain League-agent, returns for an exciting, bold new era of Minions mayhem in Illumination’s Despicable Me 4.” The new adventurous storyline starts when “Gru, Lucy, Margo, Edith, and Agnes welcome a new member to the family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal and his girlfriend Valentina, and the family is forced to go on the run.”

Fans were thrilled to watch their favorite characters return to the screen taking on new fun-filled adventures. With a new baby on board, viewers wondered how Gru Jr. would add to the family dynamic, but they were ecstatic once they watched the scenes unfold.

Directed by Chris Renaud, and written by Mike White and Ken Daurio, the film stars Steve Carell as the main character, Gru. The lead voices are Kristen Wiig (Lucy), Joey King (Poppy Prescott), Sofía Vergara (Valentina), Will Ferrell (Maxime), Miranda Cosgrove (Margo), Dana Gaier (Edith), and Madison Skyy Polan (Agnes). New characters include Steve Coogan (Silas), Stephen Colbert (Perry Prescott), Chloe Fineman (Patsy Prescott), and Laraine Newman (Melora).

The official account for the Illumination Animation sequel announced the release online. Fans excitedly posted, “I just saw the movie and it was good” Additionally, they shared, “I just watched it, best movie of the year. You guys really outdid yourselves, I gotta rank this movie #1 of the entire franchise. Thank you guys.”
