Kevin Feige Announces New Mutant Phase
Kevin Feige has unveiled the next Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) phase, focusing on mutants. Deadpool and Wolverine will launch it.
The film opens the door to beloved characters like the X-Men and new ones never seen on screen. Over the years, Marvel has hinted at this development in films such as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and The Marvels.
Feige shared with The Playlist that the new era will fully integrate mutants into the MCU, stating, “The ‘after’ [Deadpool & Wolverine] is clearly; now that we have characters from the X-Men world, the mutants, we haven’t had access to before. So, this is the beginning of that, and every [film] post-Deadpool & Wolverine will be the Mutant era coming into the MCU.”
The continuation of the MCU features new creative minds, including Michael Lesslie, writer for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, who will pen the X-Men reboot. Rumors also suggest an Avengers versus X-Men film, promising a monumental crossover event.
Fans have seen iconic appearances, such as Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange 2 and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast in The Marvels. These cameos have set the stage for a seamless transition into the mutant era. Additionally, Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine, adding to the excitement and nostalgia for long-time fans.
Notably, Marvel’s strategic buildup through previous films has created an environment ripe for the introduction of mutants. This carefully planned approach ensures a cohesive and engaging narrative, keeping audiences invested in the unfolding saga. As the MCU continues to evolve, including mutants represents a significant milestone, promising thrilling adventures and dynamic character interactions.
