After years of being away from the stage due to illness, Celine Dion will make her momentous comeback at the Paris Olympics.

In December 2022, the pop legend was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome and had to take a break from performing live for the sake of her health. In an interview with Vogue France in April, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer opened up about her daily struggles with the illness, her recovery process, and her desire to one day step back into the spotlight.

“I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team,” Dion shared. “I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”

Now, with the Paris Olympics just days away, the international star will likely have her chance to perform against the backdrop of the grand French landmark.

Though details about Dion’s appearance at the opening ceremony have been kept hidden from the public, Variety reports that the “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” singer flew into Paris on Monday and is currently staying at the Royal Monceau Hotel near the Champs-Élysées. According to the outlet, Lady Gaga, who has also been rumored to be performing at the ceremony, is now at the Royal Monceau.

For the first time, the opening ceremony will occur outside an Olympic stadium on July 26. Instead, the parade of Olympic athletes will be sailing down the Seine River in boats. The parade will end near the Trocadero, which will provide a stunning view of the Eiffel Tower.

The historic opening ceremony will surely be the perfect setting for Dion’s equally landmark performance, as it will be the first live performance the “All By Myself” singer has done since ending her Las Vegas residency in 2021.

The performance will also be her second time gracing an Olympic stage. She first performed at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta when she sang “The Power of the Dream,” a song specifically written for the event.

Readers can stream Celine Dion’s music on all platforms and tune in to the Paris Olympics opening ceremony on NBC.
