Shortly after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the upcoming election, Vice President Kamala Harris raised $100 million for her own campaign.

Over the weekend, President Joe Biden officially announced his withdrawal from this year’s upcoming election. While he is no longer in the race against former president Donald Trump, Biden has chosen someone very close to him in office to endorse instead.

Biden’s choice? None other than current Vice President Kamala Harris. With the president’s endorsement, Harris has gone on to fundraise more than $100 million and counting for her presidential campaign.

The vice president is building her campaign on the reversal of several policies, such as protecting reproductive freedoms. “We who believe in reproductive freedom will stop Donald Trump’s extreme abortion bans—because we trust women to make decisions about their bodies,” she stated.

Additionally, her adamant stance on other political issues swarming the United States, including Social Security and Medicare, garnered support from voters. Biden announced his withdrawal on July 21, and within only 48 hours Harris achieved a record-breaking feat.

Furthermore, according to fellow campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz, Harris’s campaign has already made history. “It’s the largest fundraising haul of any candidate ever over that time period, with over $81 million raised in the 24 hours after Biden announced he would not seek another term,” he stated.

Fast forward to July 23, the campaign now sits at over $100 million raised with no plans of stopping.

In addition, the candidate was able to garner such a vast amount of money while not being officially named the nominee for the Democratic Party.

What does that mean? Several leaders of the Democratic Party will meet in the next few weeks to make a final decision. They will decide who will be the official bid by August 7. While the vice president’s fundraising efforts have shattered a variety of records, she is not the official nominee yet, only endorsed by President Biden.

Since announcing her bid, the Democratic Party and voters have rallied around the vice president. While tension rose over President Biden’s departure, Harris’s effort to step up and take action has not gone unnoticed. At least 1.1 million individuals donated to her campaign, with 62% contributing for the first time in an election cycle.

The successful and growing campaign also gathered 58,000 signatures for volunteering. That is more than 100 times the average number of volunteers from past elections.
