Spellbound: Netflix Unveils First Trailer for New Fantasy Film
Netflix continues to prove itself as a home for original fantasy stories with the release of the first trailer for Spellbound. The animated adventure comedy premieres November 22.

Vicky Jenson, known for her work on the first Shrek film, directs the project. In addition, John Lasseter, director of many of Pixar’s most renowned works, serves as executive producer. Finally, David Ellison, who recently acquired Paramount Pictures, is also attached as an executive producer.
The film previously was to debut on Apple TV+. However, Skydance Animation has since ended its multi-year deal with Apple and signed with Netflix instead.
Furthermore, the film has quite an impressive cast inside the recording booth. Rachel Zegler (Snow White) stars as Princess Ellian, while Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies) and Javier Bardem (Dune 2) will voice her parents, Queen Ellsmere and King Solon. Other actors attached include John Lithgow (Perry Mason) as Bolinar, Jennifer Lewis (Black-ish) as Nazara Prone, and Nathan Lane (The Lion King) as the Oracle of the Sun. Moreover, the film is described as a musical.

Netflix previously achieved success with its original fantasy film, Damsel. The Millie Bobby Brown film now sits as the eighth most-watched feature in Netflix history. As such, it’s hard to imagine Netflix doesn’t hope for the same success from this animated venture. With the film being a musical, they also hope to capture the crowd that shows up for Disney’s animated features.
Spellbound releases on Netflix on November 22. Watch the trailer below.
