Zegler and Gadot took to the stage at D23 to showcase the release of their Snow White teaser. Zegler stated, “I think any young person, any little girl if you get to put on a Disney princess dress and be her for a day let alone six months… it’s just been the most amazing experience and I can’t wait to share it with you all.”
The director, Marc Webb, wrapped filming in July 2022, expressing that it would expand on the original storyline. The film features authentic songs written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and produced by Marc Platt. Alongside lead characters Zegler and Gadot are Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, and Emilia Faucher.
Earlier in the year, fans attacked changes Snow White made to characters when behind-the-scenes photos on set were released. The images appeared not to have the seven dwarfs that everyone knew and loved, but instead, they were described as bandits.
Disney stated that this decision was “to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.”
Additionally, Zegler told Variety reporters, “[Snow White’s] not gonna be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true,” adding, “and so it’s just a really incredible story for young people everywhere to see themselves in.”
In the months leading up to the release, fans have been anticipating how the trailer would pan out. The teaser showcases Zegler singing “Whistle While You Work,” with CGI dwarfs referencing the original animated cartoon. Viewers at D23 and home raced to social media, posting their excitement for the film.
