The new horror film of the year Cuckoo, starring Hunter Schafer, was released on August 9 and surpassed three million on opening weekend.

After co-starring in HBO Max’s big hit, Euphoria, Schafer takes on a deserved leading role in Cuckoo. Bringing new light to her profound acting skills, she has widened her range as an actress and showcased her layers of talent in a horror setting.

The unhinged comedy-horror, directed and written by Tilman Singer, taps into the warped scenes of the twisted mind of a killer. The film’s world-building takes a bloodbath of a nightmare and turns it into a playfully weird cinema that fans love. Produced by Neon, the film stars Schafer, Dan Stevens, Jessica Henwick, Marton Csókás, Greta Fernández, and Jan Bluthardt.

Fans are excited to see Schafer and new actors take on deranged roles. In addition, the Euphoria actress also posted photos from the set on her Instagram account. A loving fan commented, “Idk what I was expecting but this movie was so incredible and I’ll be thinking about it for a while. Definitely my favorite of the year so far, trans excellence makes me so happy you’re a shining star.”

The film is described as “17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.”

Away from her mother in the U.S., Gretchen is timid of her new stepmother (Henwick) and half-sister, Alma (Mila Lieu). After starting to work at the resort, Gretchen notices the owner, Herr König (Dan Stevens), has an odd fixation on Alma. A ride home from work leaves Gretchen broken and bloody in a hospital room. Moreover, tension rises when the search for this mysterious killer begins, leaving her asking questions that she may not want the answers to.
