Jewel Elizabeth welcomed 30 fashion enthusiasts into the Alice and Olivia store in Bryant Park to celebrate her debut book, The Encyclopedia of New York Fashion.

The Encyclopedia of New York Fashion provides readers with a glimpse into fashion history throughout New York City. From explaining the birthplace of the safety pin and ballet flat to the modern-day looks influenced by a melting pot of pop culture—if you want to know about it, she wrote it.

The book’s cover features the iconic NYC subway maps and a beloved image of Audrey Hepburn because guess what? Yes, Breakfast at Tiffany’s was also born in New York City.

At the intimate gathering, the NYC fashion writer was ecstatic over her new book, telling us she was “beside herself.” More importantly, she opted for a quaint setting because she genuinely wanted people who were “excited about the book and excited about fashion” to commemorate the occasion.

Although there were some new faces present (hi, us), she made it a point to acknowledge the different professions in the room. She then encouraged everyone to do what New York Fashion Week is about, engaging with others over their admiration for fashion and striking up meaningful connections.

After reading some snippets of the book and appropriately ending off with the Alice and Olivia chapter, guests had the chance to shop through the dainty store and pick up any last-minute pieces for their week ahead, indulge in some cocktails by Via Carota, and get their books signed by Elizabeth.

By the end of the night, everyone left with a nugget of fashion history, adorable pieces for their wardrobe, and at least one new fashion friend – sounds like a win to us.
