Percy Jackson Series Announces New Cast Member Tamara Smart

Percy Jackson welcomes Tamara Smart to its lineup of demigods and Olympians. Cast as Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus, she’s set to make a powerful debut when season two arrives in 2025.

After a successful first season streaming on Disney+, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is returning to the screen in 2025 for a second season. Percy and his friends will embark on another quest while encountering some familiar faces and some unfamiliar foes. While there is no specific release date for the new season, the series is building anticipation by revealing characters who will make the leap from book to screen. One such character is none other than Thalia Grace, a Greek demigod and daughter of Zeus.

Embodied by Tamara Smart, the actress will be a recurring guest star throughout season two. “Thalia Grace is one of the most important characters in the Percy Jackson universe, so the right casting was critical. Thalia is a powerful warrior, a fiercely loyal friend, and a demigod rebel with a very ‘punk’ / ‘rage-against-the-machine’ sensibility. As soon as we saw Tamara Smart play this role, we knew we had found our daughter of Zeus. She was, no pun intended, electric. Tamara puts the ‘grace’ in Thalia Grace!” Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series, stated.

Fans can expect the second season to be based on The Sea of Monsters, the second installment in Riordan’s famed book series, with Thalia playing a pivotal role as she steps out of the shadows and onto the screen. However, this isn’t the first time Thalia Grace has been referenced in the show. Though not seen in human form, Thalia was hinted at in the first season. In an attempt to save her friends, Zeus chose to spare her from death by transforming her into a tree that acts as a magical barrier, protecting the demigods at Camp Half-Blood.

Smart’s portrayal of Thalia Grace is one fans will surely set their alarms for. She worked alongside the late Lance Reddick, who portrayed Zeus before his passing. Their casting as father and daughter once again feels like a matter of fate, as Reddick and Smart had previously portrayed a father-daughter duo in another project.

“I’m so grateful and excited to be joining the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It’s so close to my heart. Lance Reddick and I always spoke about working together again, so it’s that much more special and important to me to play his daughter once more as Thalia, and to keep his memory alive. I feel his presence all around me and strive to make him proud on this exciting journey.” Smart reflected on maintaining Reddick’s legacy.
