Mariah Carey Exclusive NFL Christmas Gameday Performance: Everything You Need to Know
The Queen of Christmas will perform on the big screen this holiday season during the NFL Christmas Gameday. Mariah Carey will be the opening act for the NFL Gameday special, which will live stream on Netflix on December 25.
Fresh off her Christmas tour, the pop legend will deliver a taped performance of her 16-time platinum single, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” from her iconic album Merry Christmas, celebrating its 30th anniversary. The holiday anthem, certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), recently hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart yet again, continuing its reign as a seasonal staple.
Carey’s performance will air at approximately 1 p.m. before the livestream of the highly anticipated football matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fans can catch the performance again at 4:30 p.m., right before the second game of the day, featuring the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens.
However, Mariah Carey won’t be the only diva lighting up the NFL Christmas Gameday. Beyoncé, the Queen Bee herself, is scheduled to perform during halftime of the Texans vs. Ravens game. The RnB singer will deliver a set of songs from her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter, marking the first time the superstar will perform tracks from the country-inspired record live. Beyoncé teased the performance on Instagram, captioning it as “A Cowboy Carter Christmas,” a treat for fans eagerly awaiting her next move.
Netflix will livestream both football games as part of its strategic move into the sports industry. The streaming giant signed a three-year, $150 million contract with the NFL to broadcast select games, including one holiday match each year through 2026.
While this venture has been highly anticipated, it hasn’t been without its challenges. During last summer’s Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match, the platform experienced technical issues, raising questions about its ability to handle high-profile live events. However, Netflix has assured viewers it has addressed the problems to ensure a seamless experience for football fans this holiday season.
In addition to Netflix, the games will also be broadcast via CBS in Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Houston, and available to stream on NFL+.
