With the Met Gala just a few months away, both its official dress code and its stacked committee of celebrity hosts have been revealed.

The annual gala, which takes place on the first Monday of every May, will fall on May 5. In October, the theme was unveiled as “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by the 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity by Monica L. Miller. In her book, Miller dives into eighteenth-century fashion, specifically that of Black men, and explores how style was used to form identities and explore new political and social possibilities.

In addition to the event’s theme, there is a specific dress code for stars to follow. Vogue and the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute announced the dress code is “Tailored For You.” While the MET will curate an exhibit of men’s clothing, the dress code encourages guests to get creative and wear what suits them.

In honor of this year’s theme, the event will be led by a committee of many influential Black stars. The gala is cochaired by Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Lewis Hamilton, with Anna Wintour on the council and LeBron James as honorary chair.

Each year, viewers tune in to see which of their favorite celebs will arrive at the MET steps, and while this year’s guest list is still largely unknown, an additional committee of hosts gives away a few names. Athletes and artists alike are featured on this year’s board, including Doechii, Sha’Carri Richardson, Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens, Janelle Monaé, Usher, and more.

The guest list for every gala is slightly different. In the past, numbers have ranged from 500 to 800 guests, but according to Met Gala planner Sylvana Ward Durrett, Vogue has begun scaling back the number of invites. “Eight hundred was probably when we decided we were too big. We want the experience to feel intimate for our guests, so in the past few years, we’ve really scaled back and dropped numbers by almost 200 or 300 people,” the Vogue employee mentioned.

With the theme, dress code, and committee announced, anticipation is rising for the 2025 Met Gala. Celebrating Black culture and style, this year’s “Tailored For You” theme invites bold interpretations. Blending history, artistry, and glamour, it promises to be an unforgettable night.
