The Rings of Power Will Now Feature a Major Time Jump in Season 3 on Prime Video
After ending season two on an emotionally gripping cliffhanger, Prime Video has renewed Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power for a third season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, viewers will return to Middle Earth after a prolonged time skip.
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a live-action fantasy series set in the faraway world of Middle-Earth, created by legendary author J.R.R. Tolkien. The series takes place thousands of years before the events of Lord of the Rings. It charts the events of Middle Earth’s Second Age, the War of the Elves, and the origins of Sauron, the main antagonist of the original trilogy.
Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last. pic.twitter.com/jEkntXQOPc

The choice to renew is not surprising. The Rings of Power is arguably one of the biggest series from Prime Video. In fact, the first season has one of the biggest series’ premiere on the streaming platform. At its heels, season two became one of the most-watched returning seasons of an original Prime Series. Overall, The Rings of Power has a worldwide viewership of 170 million viewers.
Currently, the third season of The Rings of Power is in production. Filming is expected to begin this spring at the new Sheppteron Studios in London.
J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay will continue to act as executive producers and show-runners of this live-action fantasy series.
Season Two Spoilers for The Rings of Power
The season two finale climaxes with a significant moment in the War of the Elves- siege and destruction of Eregion’s capital at the hands of Sauron’s (Charlie Vickers) army. The evil elf is now equipped with an army of orcs, Mordor, and the nine things of Men.
Despite the devastating loss of Eregion and the deaths of many, the dwarves and elves are determined to take another stand against Sauron. Another important final reveal was the identity of the Stranger, the legendary Tolkien wizard Gandalf.
Years after these events, in the heat of the war, Sauron seeks to craft the One Ring, which is meant to end the war in his favor. But the elves and dwarves also have rings, which will brighten the fight to Sauron for the sake of Middle Earth.
There will likely be no more news on season three until late July when the San Diego Comic-Con will be held. Many networks choose that time to release first looks and teaser trailers.
While we wait for more details, the first two seasons of The Rings of Power can be streamed on Prime Video.
