Seventeen years after starring in Hancock, Will Smith is hinting at details about a potential sequel to the superhero film.

During an appearance on xQc’s Twitch live stream, the Oscar-winning actor shared some insights into the project.

“There’s a really cool, really cool Hancock 2 idea,” Hancock stated. “We haven’t even talked about it so I’m gonna give you one little piece — Zendaya is being approached for a role in Hancock 2.”

Released in 2008, Hancock starred Smith as an amnesiac, alcoholic superhero struggling with the destruction he causes while saving lives in Los Angeles. After rescuing a couple (portrayed by Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron), they team up with him to enhance his public image and help him recall his past.

Directed by Peter Berg, who later helmed Deepwater Horizon and Patriots Day starring Mark Wahlberg, Hancock was written by Vy Vincent Ngo and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. The Sony film earned over $600 million worldwide, surpassing its $150 million production budget.

A sequel to Hancock has been discussed for years. In 2012, director Peter Berg mentioned that the cast had talked about returning but struggled to coordinate schedules. He revealed that he, Smith, and producers Michael Mann and Akiva Goldman even met to brainstorm ideas, with Smith presenting a concept. However, timing remained an issue. Given Smith’s recent hints at a new cast, it seems the project is still in development, but whether it will reach the big screen is uncertain.

As the conversation around a Hancock sequel continues, fans remain hopeful that the long-awaited follow-up could finally come to fruition. However, with key factors like timing and cast alignment still in play, it’s unclear when or if the project will officially take off.
