Russell Wilson Signs New Deal with New York Giants

Russell Wilson recently signed a 21 million dollar one-year deal with the New York Giants, and his wife, Ciara, is on board.

The “1,2 Step” singer, who has been married to Wilson since 2016, posted a throwback photo of the Super Bowl champion wearing a New York Yankees jersey and helmet while holding a baseball bat. She shared her joy on her Instagram Story with the popular Jay-Z and Alicia Keys song, “Empire State of Mind.”

Wilson joins a team that finished last season with a 3-14 record. He’s coming off his first year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he led the team to a 10-8 record and a Wild Card Round playoff loss in his only season. The athlete threw 16 touchdowns and 2,482 yards, completing 63.7% of his passes in his only season with the team. Seven years ago, Wilson played in New York for the first time—though for a different team and in a different sport.

Wilson was once a baseball prospect, drafted twice by MLB teams—first by the Orioles in 2007 and later by the Rockies in 2010. Eventually, he signed with the Rockies after playing baseball at NC State. He spent two years in the Rockies’ minor league system as a second baseman, reaching full-season Single-A in 2011. After transferring to Wisconsin in 2011, the 10-time Pro Bowler, a two-sport student-athlete in college, shifted his focus to football.

In 2013, the father of four was selected by the Rangers and even participated in spring training despite already leading the Seattle Seahawks as their quarterback. However, Wilson ultimately chose to focus solely on football, where he went on to achieve tremendous success and has become one of the NFL’s most accomplished quarterbacks.

His brief foray into baseball remains a fascinating chapter in his multi-sport journey, illustrating his athletic talent and determination, while his football career continues to shine with numerous accolades, including a Super Bowl title and multiple Pro Bowl selections.
