N*E*R*D Recruits Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean for New Single
They plan to address police shootings in this new song.
With the new album No One Ever Really Dies dropping soon, Pharrell is surprising fans with various singles beforehand. He currently has two highly praised singles with “Lemon,” featuring Rihanna and “1000,” featuring Future climbing the charts. In the current political climate, Pharrell is ready to tackle the discussion of police brutality with “Don’t Don’t Do It!” This song gained inspiration from Keith Scott who suffered a fatal encounter with police last year in Charlotte. In a recent interview with Beats 1 Radio host Zane Lowe, Pharrell explains how he created “Don’t Don’t Do It!”
“The thing that was ironic for me is when she’s saying to her husband, don’t do it, don’t don’t do it. Don’t do it Keith,” Pharell stated. “I’m thinking to myself, all of these unarmed African American motorists — when you do what the authorities ask you to do, I wonder before you die if your conscience says that to you, or asks you or suggests to you, “Don’t do it, don’t do it.” He continued.
The song is set to feature appearances from Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean.
