Italian actress, Asia Argento, Calls out Alleged Rapist Harvey Weinstein at Cannes Film Festival
Asia Argento, Italian Actress, recently delivered a speech at the Cannes Film Festival while accepting an award for best actress.
What would have been expected to be an acceptance speech became a platform for Argento to tell her rape story, one that has been shared by several other alleged victims.
She called Weinstein out for his crime and addresses other in the film industry who perpetuate rape culture in the film industry. The rape victims of Harvey Weinstein are still facing the battle for justice and pursing change of rape culture.
Asia Argento is among one of he first women to be assaulted by Weinstein at the age of 21. During her speech she called for rapists to be held accountable for their crimes. She passionately tells the audience that sexual bullying and assault in the film industry will no longer be tolerated.
“Even tonight, sitting among you, there are those that need to be held accountable for their conduct against women,” she said. “But most importantly we know who you are and we will not allow you to get away with it any longer.”
Harry Weinstein still continues to deny these allegations despite the 50 brave women that have come forward and shared their stories.
