Netflix Signs Multi-Year Deal With Kenny Ortega
Netflix recently signed a deal with award-winning filmmaker and choreographer Kenny Ortega, the man that gave fans High School Musical.
This is a big deal for Netflix. Ortega is most known for the High School Musical franchise that resulted in a Primetime Emmy and Directors Guild of America Award. He’s also known for directing Disney Channel Hocus Pocus, The Cheetah Girls 2, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Gilmore Girls, Descendants 2 and more. The first two projects Ortega will direct and produce for Netflix will be Auntie Clause, a film, and Julie and the Phantoms, an original series he will also executive produce.
Auntie Clause is a musical based on the popular book, “Auntie Clause” by Elise Primavera about a young girl determined to find out why her Christmas-loving Aunt disappears every Christmas. Julie and the Phantoms is a musical comedy series based on a teenager, Julie, who finds her passion for music and life with the help of a high-concept band who have been dead for 25 years.
