Yara Shahidi Shares Stage with Her Mother at the Women’s E3 Summit

Instagram

Yara Shahidi and her mother were guest speakers and attendees at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture on June 13th. The summit was the second one to ever be held and focused on the empowerment, engagement, and entrepreneurship of African American women from a variety of backgrounds, businesses, and age groups. Yara and her mother, Mrs. Keri Shahidi, held a discussion about their perspectives. They spoke with CNN anchor Fredericka Whitfield, who also led a panel discussion of African American women entrepreneurs. Adjacent to the panel discussion was keynote speaker and former Georgia House Democratic Leader, Stacey Abrams, whom you may have seen deliver her historical speech at the State Of The Union Address this past February.

Forever grateful for spaces like these! I was lucky to share the stage with my mama and partner in crime @chocolatemommyluv at the #WomensE3 summit this morning in @nmaahc while being surrounded by mentors who are doing integral work in every and all fields! A big thank you to Dr. Bunch (who recently became the first Black secretary elect of all Smithsonian institutions) and for @timothyanne for the incredible work you do to pay reverence to a much forgotten history + for being the first person to show us how truly magical the details of @adjaye_visual_sketchbook are!
