Kerby Jean-Raymond’s Historical Pyer Moss Fashion Show

Kerby Jean-Raymond, the creator of Pyer Moss, creates a breathtaking cultural show celebrating black excellence in pop culture.

Kerby Jean-Raymond is known for making memorable shows and this show was no different. Everything was on point– from the message, the venue, and the choir to the beautiful garments–this show did not disappoint.

Jean-Raymond’s third collection of Pyer Moss,” Sister,” is a part of the three-part collection uncovering the lost stories of African Americans in pop culture.

The American, Also; Lesson 3, “Sister” focused on the untold contributions of Rosetta Tharpe, the inventor of rock-n-roll.

Jean-Raymond also included artwork by the artist, Richard Phillips, who was falsely accused of committing a crime and sentenced 45 years in jail. While in prison, Phillips become passionate about art and painting.

The fashion show also featured political messages like “Vote or Die” and highlighted female hip hop rappers like Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliot, and Cardi B through the choir’s rendition of their songs.

Casey Gerald author of There Will Be No Miracles Here also spoke in the fashion show, reading a speech about Fannie Moore and Rosetta Tharpe.

The collection included pieces from Reebok, artwork from Richard Phillips intertwined with the fashion pieces, and collaborations with Sean John.
