You Have to Watch ‘The Lovebirds,’ Now Set to Stream on Netflix
Originally planned for a theatrical release, the movie is now heading straight to streaming on Netflix on May 22.
Produced by and starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani, The Lovebirds features a couple on the verge of breaking up; that is, until they accidentally get involved in a murder mystery. With their lives at risk and the police after them, they must embark on a shenanigan-filled journey and find a way to survive the night and somehow save their relationship along the way.
The film has scored a 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, with most critics attributing the film’s success to Rae’s and Nanjiani’s talented performances.

“I think we worked a lot on the script just in terms of trying to make these feel like real people,” Rae said in an interview with Cinema Blend. “We just wanted to be able to chart their path to success—or non-success, you have to watch the movie to find out. But that was very important to us.”
Nanjiani took to Twitter to express his excitement about the praise the film is receiving.
