Created by activist Colin Kaepernick, the Know Your Rights Camp is a Legal Defense Initiative for those in need of legal resources for civil rights injustices in today’s America. The first camp met in October 2016 in Oakland with approximately 95 members. Three years later, the camp now serves larger audiences, as their most recent camp held in Atlanta in 2019 served over 450 youth members.
The @kaepernick7 Know Your Rights Camp Legal Defense Initiative is now helping arrested Freedom Fighters NATIONWIDE! We’re also working w/ our lawyers to file civil rights cases against the police for their terroristic acts. More info/donate https://t.co/I8V7vYZzUW #wegotus pic.twitter.com/mr70QzHlzk

Each camp collaborates with guest speakers to educate today’s youth for tomorrow’s generation of change. Some guest speakers have included civil rights attornies, health and wellness professionals, entrepreneurs, and college councilors. Schumer also paid tribute to Breonna Taylor on her birthday. Breonna Taylor was 26 years old when she was fatally shot after police served a “no-knock warrant” in Louisville, Kentucky. The charges against the police officer have been dropped. If you would like to join Bianca Austin, Taylor’s aunt, in the fight for justice, head to their gofundme page.
