Country Star Darius Rucker on Supporting Black Lives Matter
Darius Rucker states he is done living his life like nothing is wrong and opens up about his opinions and fears with the injustice in the world.
The country star speaks candidly and got real with us in his interview with Harry Smith on The Today Show. Between his experiences throughout life and the current events today, it really got him to stop and think. He told Smith he “can’t keep living [his] life like everything is OK because everything is not OK.”
Rucker has three children who are old enough to understand the injustice in the world and he has to prepare them for the worst-case scenarios. His youngest son is getting ready to start driving and Rucker has taught him what to do if he ever were to get pulled over by the police.
The singer himself has gotten pulled over many times in his life because of his skin color and his fancy car he was driving in. He has learned to brush it off his whole life, but due to the current events, it made him realize that things like this need to end.

It’s certainly been a hard year so far with a lot of heaviness around us constantly. Really appreciate the @Todayshow for having me on this morning in the 8AM hour. Looking forward to releasing new music for y’all on August 6! https://t.co/4F6ZiqnaWq

We thank Rucker as well as all the other celebrities who have come out and shared their thoughts on the topic. Everyone has to do their part to help make change happen in the world.
Rucker will perform a virtual “Darius & Friends” concert on the Grand Ole Opry stage on July 30 where all proceeds go towards St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Be sure to check it out and support a great cause.
Hi! I am Hannah Forton pursuing a double major in Communications and Music Industry. I love traveling, sports, cooking, music, Broadway, movies, DIY, make-up, clothes, and tutorials. Some of my favorite work experiences includes an internship at a recording studio and working at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Helping and educating others is important to me, and I’ve enjoyed being able to do so through volunteering for numerous non-profits since middle school. I like the big city vibes, but small towns will always hold a special place in my heart. Living near Detroit allows me to achieve the best of both worlds.
