Disney’s Live Action ‘Mulan’ Will Premiere On Disney+

Disney Enterprises

As anticipated, Disney’s live-action Mulan will not be released in theaters and instead, will premiere on Disney+.

Previously, the film has been postponed a number of times due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, Niki Caro, the director of Mulan announced that the film had to be postponed until further notice back in March. A month later, Caro announced the new release date will be on July 24th. The film was again postponed to August 21st. Unfortunately, no one anticipated how long the severity of the pandemic would last. Finally, Disney announced today that the film will be dropped on Disney+ as a smart and cautious decision to keep families and children safe.

This announcement made sense not just for health and safety reasons. The popularity of streaming services is at an all-time high, and according to Variety, Disney+ currently has more than 60.5 million paying subscribers. The abundant amount of subscribers is a valid reason for Mulan to flock to the family-friendly streaming service, and Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced that the film will be released on a “premiere access” for $29.99. He noted that the film release on Disney+ will be a one-time event and Disney will analyze how successful this business model will be like. He said, “We find it very interesting to take a premiere offering to consumers at that $29.99 price and learn from it.”

We will finally see this epic live-action film this September 4th and we can’t wait.
