Thousands Gather for Unmasked Pool Party in Wuhan
Despite Wuhan, China being the city where the novel coronavirus began citizens showed up by the thousands for a wild pool party.
The party, held at Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park, was a part of an electronic music festival held on Saturday, Aug. 15. The party served as a celebration for a city that experienced a 76-day lockdown, one of the first shutdowns that brought the entire world to a standstill.

Since the lockdown ended in April, China has been returning to some sort of normalcy, slowly refilling the streets that were barren at the start of the year. While other countries began easing into a reopening by opening stores, restaurants, and rolling back travel restrictions, it seems Wuhan is ready to get into the full swing of nightlife fun.
Before you shudder at the thought of being in a giant pool with thousands of other people, it should be noted that Wuhan has not had a local case of COVID-19 reported since May.
Yup…Wuhan, the original epicenter of #COVID19 can now host a massive swimming pool rave party. No masks. No social distancing. This is after Wuhan went on a mass campaign to test its entire population. It’s reported no new cases since May. https://t.co/2hVLHAG6iz

However, that did not stop social media users from questioning the gathering. Pictures and videos of the party show no masks insight, and little-to-no social distancing between partygoers in rubber floaties. The city has well-surpassed guidelines like those still seen here in the U.S., where gatherings in some states are still restricted to no more than 10 people.
