This year’s Video Music Awards had to be done differently due to COVID-19 restrictions, but that did not stop stars like Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga from putting on show-stopping performances for their fans.

Gaga performed a medley from her newest album Chromatica, starting with “911” then Grande came out for the debut performance of their duet “Rain on Me”. The set ended with Gaga singing “Stupid Love”. The duo looked stunning in metallic outfits, Gaga herself had two costumes changes in the three-song set.

Masks were a must accessory for the performance, as the background dancers, and the singers wore their personal protective equipment. While Grande wore a simple black mask, Gaga, per usual, went out of the box with an electronic mask with waves that moved as she sang.

She reminded viewers of the importance of wearing a mask, shouting “Be kind, masks up!” towards the end of her performance. Have no fear, the masks did not hinder the performance, both Grande and Gaga served phenomenal vocals from behind the masks, with Grande hitting a signature whistle note.

When accepting the award for Best Collaboration, Gaga shared what it was like creating the hit song with her fellow pop star, “I feel like when we were in the studio, we turned our tears, that felt like endless rainfall, into diamonds. I will treasure those diamonds with you forever, honey”.

Gaga and Grande also received a Moon Man for Song of the Year. Fans on social media raved early on that the pop stars had the best performance of the night. Check out their stellar moves and music below.
