Sandra Oh to Star in a Psychological Horror Called ‘Umma’
Golden Globe winner Sanda Oh is going to star in and executive produce the supernatural film Umma.
Oh will be joined by Fivel Stewart, Dermot Mulroney, Odeya Rush, MeeWha Alana Lee, and Tom Yi. This talented cast is sure to create a highly esteemed film that people will talk about for years to come. Iris K. Shim has written the screenplay, marking her first feature film as a director.
Sandra Oh will star in Iris K. Shim’s supernatural psychological horror ‘Umma’, making it the first horror studio film written and directed by a Korean American woman and starring a Korean American actress. Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi are producing.

In Korean, the word “Umma” translates to mother. According to Deadline, the movie focuses on a daughter, Amanda Oh, who lives a simple life on an American farm. Later, the remains of her mother, whom she wasn’t close to, show up from her home. She becoming haunted by her mother’s memory and fears she will turn into her.
Oh stars in BBC’s Killing Eve. Her iconic role has garnered her a Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and three Emmy nominations for Lead Actress in a Drama Series. You may also know her from ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in which she played Doctor Cristina Yang. Oh won Golden Globe and SAG award for that role and was nominated for five Emmys.

“From the Black Panther table to the Pose table to the Crazy Rich Asians table, these are faces that I feel many people have been so starved to see,” Oh tells NBC News.
Oh became the first woman of Asian descent to earn an Emmy nomination for lead actress in a drama series back in 2018. She continues to represent Asian Americans proudly and we cannot wait to see her take on this new role.
