Emma Stone and Others to Star in New TV Comedy ‘The Curse’
Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder, and the Safdie brothers are set to star in a brand-new television comedy series The Curse in 2021, and here’s what you need to know.
For what Deadline describes as a “genre-bending comedy,” Stone, Fielder, and the Safdie brothers will take part in a new 30-minute TV series set to air on Showtime. The show was originally created by Fielder (known for his work in the Comedy Central series Nathan For You), Benny Safdie (known for his work in Good Time), and Josh Safdie is set to executive produce the show (alongside Fielder and Stone). Fielder’s latest television project, How To with John Wilson, just began streaming on HBO and HBO Max.
Primarily known for her work in film, Stone (known for her work in La La Land, Easy A, and Crazy Stupid Love) is just beginning to make her foray into television, after starring in the comedy-drama Netflix series Maniac in 2018. According to Deadline, The Curse can be summed up as a show that “explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while co-starring on their problematic new HGTV show.”

This will be the first television series for the Safdie brothers. According to Deadline, the Executive Vice President of Showtime Networks Incorporated, Amy Israel, gave a statement to the media about the upcoming show and said, “The fierce intelligence and wit of the incomparable Emma Stone make her the perfect partner with the ingenious minds of the Safdie brothers and the subversive comedy of Nathan Fielder,” said Amy Israel, Executive Vice President, Scripted Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. “Together, they promise to deliver a groundbreaking satire that is both unexpected and deeply human. Showtime continues to shine as a beacon for visionary filmmakers who are looking to create their ambitious, singular shows.”
