The actress who made us fall in love with Alexis Rose in Schitt’s Creek is now leading a new sitcom that finally dives into the complexity of being a stereotypical housewife.

The creator of the show Kevin Can F**k Himself, Valerie Armstrong, asked all the right questions. How does a woman in a sitcom end up in a marriage where she always gets the short end of the stick? Why doesn’t she get upset that she’s always the butt of the joke? During a discussion with her colleagues at AMC, her questions became the groundwork for the pitch that turned into a show.

Armstrong’s goal was to truly shine the spotlight on a housewife’s inner emotional world, something a sitcom never really does. But to do this, she needed the right actress for the job. Luckily, she found Annie Murphy for the role. Armstrong noted that “Whoever we found needed to make these small moments funny, and Annie can make anything funny.”

Fans of the hit series Schitt’s Creek are very familiar with Murphy’s role as Alexis, a rich girl struggling to live in a small town. This role also won Murphy her first Emmy.

The title of the show plays off of the popular sitcom Kevin Can Wait because this new sitcom uses all the tropes that Kevin Can F**K Himself hopes to dismantle. “The job of the show is making that wife, that beautiful, put-upon, supposedly naggy wife, a real person. How did that woman actually get stuck in this situation? And how does she get out?” Armstrong wonders.

We are thrilled to see the talented actress tackle this new role that will no doubt make us fall in love with her and her comedic skills all over again.
