Gillespie stated, “Cruella has such a rebellious nature which has ties to Alexander Mcqueen” he continued, “For example, the way that he used to make people come to the wrong side of the tracks for his shows, pulling them into his world”

Gillespie also mentioned that London’s 1970’s fashion with a combination of the punk movement along the King’s Road and the sense of rebellion will be major components and inspiration for the film. “Our production designer Fiona Crombie did an incredible job bringing that period to life, including the London Squatters Movement, which you see in the film,” Gillespie told British Vogue.

Viewers should expect to get a better glimpse into the villain’s backstory and rushes of nostalgia. There will also be many references from the original cartoon, 101 Dalmations such as Cruella’s obsession with Dalmatians’ spots and familiar characters from the prior classic tale.

The bar is set high, however, considering the stylish punk-infused leather looks Emma donned along with the signature black and white hair in the live action trailers, it’s safe to say Cruella’s fashion reputation is in great hands.

Cruella will be released May 28, 2021, follow the live action film’s official Instagram page to stay updated.
